The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has officially announced the appointment of Charlotte Edwards as the new Head Coach of the England Women’s team.

Charlotte Edwards appointed England women's head coach

Edwards brings a wealth of experience to the role, having represented England more than 300 times during her illustrious 20-year playing career. As a former captain, she led her country to significant triumphs, including two World Cup victories and five Ashes series wins. Holding the captaincy from 2006 to 2016, Edwards guided the team to three Ashes victories, an ICC Women’s World Cup title, and an ICC Women’s T20 World Cup win.

In 2014, she was recognised as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year, a groundbreaking achievement as the first Kent Women cricketer to receive this honor and only the second woman in history to be so recognized.

Charlotte Edwards enjoyed considerable success and secured multiple trophies during her time with Kent. Notably, she captained the 'Horses' throughout what is widely regarded as Kent Women's initial period of significant success, spanning from 2006 to 2016.

In her final season with Kent in 2016, Edwards led the team to a domestic double victory, bringing her total trophy count with the county to an impressive ten, including three national T20 competition wins.

Since her retirement from professional cricket in 2017, Edwards has transitioned into coaching, gaining experience across the English domestic cricket structure and various global T20 leagues. She has achieved success with teams such as the Southern Vipers in regional cricket, the Southern Brave in The Hundred, the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, and the Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League.

“I am so delighted to once again be part of the leadership of the England Women’s cricket team, and I cannot wait to take this team forward and drive us to success. It means the world to me to have the three lions on my chest once again. Leading England as captain was my life for 10 years and I will forever be passionate about this team and our legacy. We have such a talented group of players, and I am excited about working with them and improving them both as individuals and as a team," Charlotte Edwards said after her appointment.

“We have the immediate challenge of two home summer series, and then it’s straight into the ICC Women’s World Cup in India this autumn, with a home ICC Women’s T20 World Cup next summer. There’s also the mouth-watering prospect of the first ever Olympics for women’s cricket in LA 2028. I’m relishing the prospect of winning trophies and taking this team forward,” she added.

The fixture will see England take on the West Indies at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury. England will also host India for a one-off Test against India in July after playing a white-ball series against them starting from June 28.
