The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government announced its maiden budget of the second term of government in the state assembly. The Adityanath government presented a budget worth Rs 5,50,270.78 crore for the financial year 2021-22. Tabling the budget was Uttar Pradesh Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna.
The budget is set to boost the development of different sports in the state. Among the various amounts allocated in the budget, the biggest project that has been included in the budget in the approval to build an International Cricket Stadium in Varanasi for around Rs 95 crore.
The budget has allocated money for various other projects in Varanasi, which is set to transform the city into a 'Smart City.' For the smart city project, the central government will allocate Rs 200 crore to Varanasi. A budget of Rs 100 crore will also be given for light metro projects in Varanasi and Gorakhpur.
Meanwhile, a Khelo India Center will be established in 75 districts of the state under one district-one sports scheme, and a budget of Rs 100 crore is proposed for the development and beautification of tourism facilities in Varanasi. In Kashi, a budget of Rs 97.42 crore has been proposed for cleaning the Nirmal Ganga.
In addition to this, Rs 50 crore has been allocated for the establishment of the Major Dhyan Chand Sports University.
It is worth noting that UP already has the Ekana International Stadium in Lucknow and the Greenpark Cricket Stadium in Kanpur. The establishment of a cricket stadium in Varanasi will make it the third international stadium in the state.
UP-based Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) which made its debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, also reached the playoffs in their very first season. However, they recently went on to lose the Eliminator at the hands of RCB.
