The UP Warriors will be the Women's Premier League (WPL) franchise with the highest purse in the auction as they have decided to retain just one uncapped player for the next season. The franchise have only retained Shweta Sehrawat for a fee of INR 50 lakh and have decided to release both Deepti Sharma and Alyssa Healy.
England spinner Sophie Ecclestone has also been released, despite her fabulous performance in the recently concluded Women's World Cup. Other notable players that they released are Kranti Goud, Uma Chetry, Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath and Chamari Athapaththu.
UP Warriorz' performance in WPL
It is safe to say that the 2024 and 2025 WPL seasons were not memorable for UP Warriorz as they failed to qualify for the playoffs on both the occasions, finishing second-last and last respectively. They will be hoping to do better in the upcoming season and make it to the playoffs again.
Notably, the franchise will be having a huge purse of INR 14.5 crore in addition to 4 Right to Match (RTM) cards that they can use on two Indian and two overseas players each. It remains to be seen which players will the franchise be going after at the auction that is set to take place on November 27 in Delhi.
Nayar takes over
Meanwhile, Abhishek Nayar has taken over as UP Warriorz' new head coach ahead of the next WPL season. He replaced Jon Lewis, who had been in-charge of the team in the first three seasons of the tournament. Nayar will be looking to make the team successful in the tournament, but for that they will need to sign players, who can make a difference on the field.
