Updated WTC Points Table after Bangladesh stun Australia, big changes for India and Sri Lanka

In a series of big events, Bangladesh enjoyed a historic moment in Test cricket on Sunday, August 16 after recording a dominant nine-wicket win against Australia at Darwin's Marrara Cricket Ground. The memorable result gave the visitors their maiden red-ball triumph on Australian soil, while also becoming only their second Test win over the Aussies overall.

Bangladesh stamped their authority right from the start after taking a massive lead of 228 runs in the first innings. Australia managed 284 in their second innings, leaving the visitors with only 57 runs to complete a remarkable win. The target barely troubled Bangladesh, who wrapped up the chase in 14.2 overs with nine wickets in hand.

Big boost for Bangladesh in WTC

The landmark result in Darwin also strengthened Bangladesh's position in the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. The nine-wicket win over the Pat Cummins-led side took their overall tally to 60 points, while their points percentage jumped from 58.33 to 66.67. However, the win did not change their place in the table, with Bangladesh continuing to claim the fourth place.

Bangladesh entered the Darwin Test on the back of an dominant show against Pakistan, where they secured two back-to-back Test wins.

On the other hand, Australia continue to lead the WTC 2025-27 standings despite their shock defeat to Bangladesh. The setback, however, has seen their points percentage fall considerably from 87.50 to 77.77. The 2023 WTC champions have now picked up two losses in nine games during the current cycle.

India's position in the WTC points table

India currently stand at the fifth spot in the WTC 2025-27 points table with a point percentage of 48.15. Even if Shubman Gill's side defeat Sri Lanka in the opening Test of the two-match series, India will retain their place. However, their PCT could improve 48.15 to 53.33.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka also have a chance to move ahead of India in the WTC table by winning the ongoing series opener in Galle. A win would lift their points percentage to 53.33 and take them to fifth place, while India would slip to sixth with a PCT of 43.33.

A draw would produce a different scenario. Sri Lanka's PCT would fall to 40.00, while India's would move down to 46.66. Even with both teams seeing changes to their percentage, their respective positions in the WTC table would remain unchanged.
