Sony Sports will broadcast the Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-starrer India A tri-series in Sri Lanka

The tri-series will be played between India A, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan A

In a last-minute change of plans, the upcoming India ‘A’ tri-series against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, scheduled to take place in the island nation, will now be telecast live. According to a report by Cricbuzz, this sudden broadcasting shift is entirely driven by one name: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old prodigy’s inclusion in the India ‘A’ squad has generated immense excitement among cricket fans and broadcasters alike, prompting Sony Sports Network to acquire the rights to air the tournament live across both its television channels and digital platforms.

The developmental competition, which features the 'A' teams of India, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, is scheduled to be held in Dambulla from June 9 to June 21. Fans eager to catch the action and track the youngster's performance will be able to watch the matches live on Sony Sports channels, with digital streaming available concurrently on the Sony LIV application.

This tournament arrives at a highly opportunistic time for Sony, a network that has had limited access to marquee cricket events in recent months due to rival broadcasters securing major properties like the IPL and ICC World Cups. Because Sony retains the rights to bilateral cricket played in Sri Lanka, the network is moving quickly to capitalise on the enormous public interest surrounding the teenage batting sensation.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's scorches bright in IPL 2026

Sooryavanshi became the youngest-ever Most Valuable Player (MVP) in tournament history during the IPL 2026 season after compiling a staggering 776 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 237.30 for the Rajasthan Royals. His remarkable campaign, which featured a spectacular century in the group stage and two blistering nineties during the high-pressure playoffs, has transformed him into one of the most marketable names in world cricket. What makes this rise even more astonishing is that he has achieved this elite status barely 12 months after making his official IPL debut.

His rapid emergence as a massive crowd-puller was visibly evident outside the stadium in New Chandigarh, where he joined a select group of elite cricketers. Sooryavanshi was among just a handful of players whose counterfeit replica jerseys were being sold to eager fans outside the venue, sharing that rare commercial spotlight with iconic figures like Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Abhishek Sharma, and Shubman Gill. Recognizing his immense popularity and connection with the fans, corporate brands have been eagerly lining up to sign the teenage prodigy to lucrative endorsement deals.

This immense star power was also heavily leveraged by the tournament's official broadcasters during their promotional campaigns. In marketing the upcoming event, Sony explicitly highlighted the youngster’s arrival by branding the tournament around him, using the high-energy promotional slogan: “The Sooryavanshi Express is coming to light up the stage in a high-octane Tri-series."
