Former India head coach Ravi Shastri's hilarious advice to ODI captain Rohit Sharma after a stand was unveiled in his name at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 16. Rohit was honoured by the Mumbai Cricket Association on Friday for his contributions to cricket. Rohit Sharma's parents did the honour by unveiling the stand in the name of their son.
Apart from Rohit, MCA also honoured former India captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar. There were many famous personalities present at the venue, and Shastri was one of them. Shastri suggested Rohit to smash a six at the stand named after him. The clip of the incident went viral on the social sphere. Here is the video.
"Smack one there," said Shastri.
Rohit was seen laughing after hearing the comment from his former coach and responded,
"Ho jayega (It will happen)," said Rohit.
After unveiling the stand, emotional Rohit Sharma shared a video on his social media where he recalled his journey when he used to travel via train just to see the Wankhede Stadium and he also revealed that he was 15 years old when he first entered the ground to witness the Ranji team's practice session.

"That was progress for me from just watching the ground from the train and then coming near the gate, the main entrance gate. I remember when I first entered the stadium. A 15-year-old came to watch the Ranji Trophy practice and I saw all the stalwarts of Mumbai Cricket practising in the stadium. You know, slowly, slowly crawling my way into the stadium to have this special thing right behind me" said Rohit.
Rohit will be seen batting at Wankhede Stadium on May 21 during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
