BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia condemned the incident after two players from the Australia women's cricket team were molested while they were on the way to a cafe in Indore. Notably, a biker had touched one player inappropriately before riding away and this led to the two to send a SOS notification. Soon after, a complaint was filed at the MIG police station by Australia team's security manager Danny Simmons.
After receiving the information about the incident, Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra lodged an FIR under Section 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman's modesty) and Section 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the MIG police station. The police soon went on to arrest the accused, Aqeel Khan. She also revealed that revealed that Aqeel has previously had cases registered against him as well. "Khan has prior criminal cases registered against him, and an investigation is ongoing," she said.
Saikia's views on the incident
Now, Saikia has shared his views on the matter and has assured that they will tightening their security if required. He also credited the Madhya Pradesh for swiftly taking action and arresting the accused soon after the incident took place.
“It is a very condemnable but stray incident. India is known for its hospitality and care. We have zero tolerance for such incidents. We appreciate the State Police (Madhya Pradesh) for their prompt action to nab the culprit. Let the law take its course to punish the culprit. We assure to revisit our safety protocols if required to further tighten the security," Saikia told India Today.

Meanwhile, the Australia team is enjoying an incredible run in the 2025 Women's World Cup. They are unbeaten in the tournament so far and have won six out of their seven matches. They are currently on top of the standings with 13 points and will be facing off against hosts India in the semi-final that will take place on October 30.
