India's 21-year-old pacer Kranti Goud scripted history at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-Street as India won the ODI series decider by 13 runs. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur won the 'Player of the match' award for her quickfire 84-ball 102 but she opted to share her 'Player of the match' award.
Harmanpreet reserved high praise for Goud for her early strikes with new ball and derailing England's run chase towards the end. She said the Indian cricket has been dying to get a pacer like her.
"Kranti, ye tere liye. Main tere se share kar rahi hu, theek hai? (Kranti, this is for you. I am sharing this with you, okay?)," she said in the video posted by the BCCI.tv.
"She bowled one of the best spells of her career. I think it is a great achievement. Indian team ke liye aise fast bowlers (fast bowlers like you) ... we've been dying for that. The kind of experience she has brought from domestic and WPL, then execute it here. I think she deserves this -- the match ball and the trophy."
Goud's record-breaking spell
Goud became the second-youngest Indian to take five or more wickets in ODIs. Also, she became the fifth Indian pacer to register a six-wicket haul in ODIs. Goud broke the 22-year-old record for best bowling figures against England in an ODI. Before her, only Nooshin Al Khadeer and Jhulan Goswami had a fifer against England in ODIs. Goud's 6 for 52 is the fourt-best bowling figures against England in the format as well.
Harmanpreet's first ODI ton of 2025
Harmanpreet dedicated her seventh ODI century to her father who has eagerly waiting for a big knock. The captain sees the series win as a big win for India in lead-up to the ODI World Cup 2025 at home later this year. India's next ODI challenge will be against Australia.
"It was a very important match for us and I want to dedicate this knock for my dad, he has been waiting for this kind of knock. I was a little under pressure and wanted to do well for the team and when you work hard the right time will come to deliver. This series was very important preparing ourselves for the World Cup. Before the World Cup, we have 3 ODIs against Australia and we want to do well and continue that momentum into the World Cup," the captain said in the post-match presentation.
