Will Jasprit Bumrah skip Sri Lanka tour even after fitness clearance? Big update emerges

Ahead of India's two-Test tour of Sri Lanka, everyone is focusing on Jasprit Bumrah's fitness status. While the star Indian pacer has been picked up in the team, the management is set to adopt a cautious approach before clearing him for action.

Selectors to take cautious approach in Jasprit Bumrah's injury

According to the latest report by The Times of India, there are no serious concerns over Bumrah's left knee, but the selectors and support staff are not going to take any risk with his workload ahead of a crucial stretch of international fixtures.

An unnamed source has claimed that selectors were in loop as Bumrah was advised an injection by the BCCI medical team before having a rest of 8-10 days. After completing his rest period, Bumrah reached CoE for his assessment. However, he is yet to start bowling to give a better picture to the team management.

"Selectors were thoroughly briefed. Bumrah was advised an injection by the BCCI medical team and had to rest for the following 8-10 days. The moment that period was over, he reached the CoE for assessment. He is yet to start bowling and the management will be given a better idea in the coming days," said source.

The report further adds that the star Indian pacer is highly unlikely to join the squad in Mumbai on August 2 ahead of their scheduled departure on August 4. A final call on his travel to Sri Lanka will be taken closer to the team's departure. However, he could join the team directly in Galle ahead of the first Test.

The source further added that Bumrah will start bowling from Saturday (today), after which a clear scenario will emerge. The source noted that dealing with injured bowlers is very different as compared to the batters.

"It is too early to make that call. He will start bowling from Saturday, and the picture will become much clearer when he bowls full throttle. See it's not a batter we are dealing with. So, the assessment and other protocols are different. So, fingers crossed," added the source.
