India will face England in T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal.

Varun Chakravarthy picked up 12 wickets so far in T20 World Cup 2026.

Former India captain and spin legend Anil Kumble believes there is one small adjustment Varun Chakaravarthy can make to become even more effective. Notably, Varun Chakaravarthy looked nearly impossible to score against in the matches leading up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. But in the tournament itself, things haven’t gone the same way for the mystery spinner.

He has picked up 12 wickets so far, which makes him the third-highest wicket-taker in the competition. However, six of those wickets came against the Netherlands and Namibia. Against stronger sides like South Africa and West Indies, he was a bit expensive, giving away 47 and 40 runs respectively.

“I havent seen him taking the ball away from the right hander that much,” said Kumble on ESPNCricinfo.

Chakaravarthy is not easy for right-handed batters: Kumble

Kumble admitted that he does not know the exact statistics, but he still feels Chakaravarthy is not easy for right-handed batters to read. At the same time, he pointed out that batters now seem to be expecting the ball to turn into them more often. Because of this, they are preparing for that variation and playing him accordingly.

“I think that is something he can do more then the ball coming into the right hander becomes that much more dangerous. Although the batters aren’t able to pick it up every time he bowls, it seems like the batters are only expecting the ball coming into them and playing him that way rather than searching for it. So maybe he needs to mix in some that goes away and then bring it back in. I am not sure of the exact numbers but that’s the only thing that I can see,” said Kumble.
