Ishtiaque Sadeque, a close ally of BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul, has resigned from his position as a director of the country's cricket board. Coincidentally, Sadeque's exit came right after ICC announced Bangladesh's exit from the T20 World Cup 2026.
Bangladesh's exit from T20 World Cup
Bangladesh refused to travel to India despite ICC's clear direction that if they persist in their demand, they will be replaced by some other team. As a result of this standoff, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has formally named Scotland as the replacement team for the tournament, which is scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
Ishtiaque Sadeque resigns as BCB director
Ishtiaque confirmed that he had tendered his resignation to the board. While the timing of his exit aligns with the major international controversy surrounding the T20 World Cup, he cited personal family reasons as the primary motivation for stepping down. This leadership change adds another layer of complexity to a challenging day for the BCB as they navigate the fallout of their withdrawal from the global stage.
"It is true that I am resigning. I believe that I am unable to dedicate the time required for such a large community like Game Development, where I am currently serving, because of my family and personal commitments. I cannot provide the effort necessary to accelerate development. For this reason, I feel a personal sense of regret that I am not doing justice to this position. That is why I am resigning," said Ishtiaque as quoted by Cricbuzz.

The claim that I am leaving because of any misunderstanding is false: Ishtiaque Sadeque
Ishtiaque, who also chaired the BCB’s Game Development Committee, was careful to dispel any rumors of internal friction following his exit. He clarified that his decision was not rooted in any misunderstandings or grievances with his colleagues, emphasizing that he maintains a positive and professional relationship with everyone across the board.
In his remarks, Ishtiaque spoke highly of his peers, noting that every member of the leadership team had consistently tried their best to navigate the challenges facing Bangladesh cricket.
"The claim that I am leaving because of any misunderstanding, relationship issues, or due to any hurt feelings or grievances is completely false. Everyone who was with me tried their best in their own way. I believe that whoever succeeds me in Game Development will be able to take Bangladesh's cricket forward. They have my full support. Even though I will no longer be on the board-I mean, they will still have my complete support. Thank you very much," Ishtiaque concluded.
