India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson revealed that he’s been giving plenty of advice to his opening partner Abhishek Sharma, who made his best contribution of the T20 World Cup so far in his last outing against Zimbabwe at MA Chidrambaram Stadium in Chennai.
It took some time for India to find the right balance at the top of the order, but the team seems to have finally settled on a strong batting combination. On Thursday in Chennai, India dominated Zimbabwe, with contributions from all of their top six batters.
India's batting unit fired runs against Zimbabwe
The new opening pair of Sharma (55) and Samson (24) set the tone in the early overs. Ishan Kishan (38), Suryakumar Yadav (33), Hardik Pandya (50*) and Tilak Varma (44*) also played their parts as India posted 256/4 which is the highest score of this T20 World Cup and the second biggest total in the tournament’s history.
“We keep it very simple. He keeps asking me, Paaji (brother), what the wicket is doing. I tell him nothing and to just see the ball and swing your bat, nothing else, so I really enjoy batting with him. We both complement each other really well, so very happy we could actually give India a great start today” Samson said about opening with Sharma on ICC digital.

India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs
A clinical performance from Team India, powered by fifties from Sharma and Pandya and a fiery bowling spell from Arshdeep Singh, brought them back into contention for a semifinal spot. They beat Zimbabwe by 72 runs in a do-or-die match.
With this loss, Zimbabwe are now out of the T20 World Cup after also losing by 107 runs to West Indies. South Africa has already qualified for the semifinals from Group 1, while India and West Indies will face off in a virtual knockout at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1 to decide the second semifinal spot.
