Australia’s hard-hitting in-form batter Tim David has been ruled out of the remainder of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26 due to a hamstring injury. Playing for Hobart Hurricanes, David suffered a grade two hamstring strain. Ahead of Australia’s announcement of preliminary squad for T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, his participation looks in doubt.
“Tim David sustained a grade two right hamstring strain during his recent BBL match. As a result, David has been ruled out for the remainder of the BBL. David's Rehabilitation timeline is has him tracking to be available for selection for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” Hobart Hurricanes said in a statement on December 29.

In David’s absence, Beau Webster walked into the playing eleven. Webster was released from Australia squad after the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground lasted just two days.
Earlier in the day, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald was positive about David recovering in time for the T20 World Cup 2026.
"Josh is returning to bowl," McDonald said. "He looks as though he should be right in terms of possible timeframes."

But, after he underwent scans on December 29, it was revealed that he has a grade two hamstring strain.
David got retired hurt during the run chase against Perth Scorchers on the Boxing Day. He was batting on 42 off 28 balls.

David’s presence is crucial for Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026. He has been in top form and justified the promotion up the order.
From 10 innings in T20Is, he has scored 395 runs at an average of 49.37 and a strike rate of 197.50. He scored an unbeaten century against West Indies. He scored three fifties as well.
In T20s overall including the franchise leagues, he scored 1,231 runs from 46 innings at an average of 39.70 and strike rate of 172.89, including a century and seven fifties. During this time, he has represented Gulf Giants, Hobart Hurricanes, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Saint Lucia Kings and Sharjah Warriorz.
