India’s pace leader Jasprit Bumrah opened up on stepping up in tough situations and said defending the T20 World Cup title is one of the most satisfying moments of his career.
Bumrah delivered an outstanding performance in the final, taking four wickets as India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs to lift the trophy. With the win, India became the first team to win the T20 World Cup title three times
Speaking in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Bumrah said he enjoys taking responsibility during crucial moments in matches.
“I don’t like staying away from the action. I want to be right in the middle when things get tough. That’s the kind of role I’ve always wanted,” he said. “I started playing cricket for moments like these. When I’m able to make a difference for the team, it gives me a lot of happiness. There’s no better feeling.”
The victory was even more special for the Gujarat-born fast bowler because it came at the ground where he began his cricket journey.
“I started my cricket here and played most of my early matches at this venue while coming up through the ranks with Gujarat. Winning the World Cup here and also being named Player of the Match makes it even more special,” Bumrah said. “Last time we came very close but couldn’t finish it. This time we managed to cross the line, and that makes me really happy.”
Bumrah also shared how meaningful the moment was, as his family was present for the celebration.
“My son was here. He was here the last time too, and it means a lot. My mother was also here, which made the moment very special,” he said.
The pacer added that winning back-to-back World Cups is rare and that he feels extremely grateful for it.
“Moments like these don’t come often. Winning consecutive World Cups is very special. I feel thankful and blessed,” he said.
