The match between Durham and Derbyshire turned out to be more than exciting as the latter secured a tie on the last ball of the match at Chester-le-Street on Friday, June 16. Haider Ali of Pakistan hit the last ball for a four as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Wayne Parnell failed to defend nine runs in the final over.

Chasing 178 for the win, openers Luis Reece (58) and Harry Came (34) gave their side the perfect start, before Parnell got his wicket in the final over of the powerplay. Reece then combined with Wayne Madsen and kept their team in the run but Paul Coughlin forced a shot from Madsen that fell to skipper Alex Lees and then Nathan Sowter got the wicket of Leus du Plooy to claw their way back as the visitors reeled at 132-3.

Then came the Pakistan batter, who hit consecutive boundaries to ensure that his team needed 31 in the final three overs.

But South African Parnell, along with Liam Trevaskis combined twice to get the wickets of Reece for 58 and then Brooke Guest for five, once again turning the tide back to Durham.

Haider and Mattie McKiernan took Bas de Leede to the cleaners in the penultimate over, hitting him for 14. The Dutchman was not helped by his two wides as the match was left in the balance heading into the final six balls of the game.

Parnell cost a run with his first ball, throwing it at the stumps after keeping McKiernan in check, but the following four balls were on the spot, leaving Derbyshire with needed from the final delivery. Haider then found the gap in a leg-side boundary to snatch a tie for the Falcons on the road.

Earlier, Brydon Carse top scored with a career-best 58 for Durham, as Zaman Khan took 4-21 and Zak Chappell 4-41 for the Falcons.
