Ishan Kishan completes 350 runs in Duleep Trophy final, East Zone extend lead to 584 before Day 5

East Zone’s dominance continued on Day 4 of the Duleep Trophy 2026 final against South Zone. After Tilak Varma missed his ton by just one run and South Zone were bowled out for 336, East Zone posted 212/5 in 51 overs, extending their lead to 584 runs. While Shikhar Mohan departed after another fifty, Ishan Kishan followed up the marathon 270-run knock with a 98-ball 80 in the second innings.

East Zone are set to register a win on the basis of first innings lead of 372 runs.

Tilak scores 99, no follow-on from Kishan

Starting at overnight score of 242/6, Varma hit Mohammed Shami for two consecutive fours in the first over of Day 4. Chama V Milind looked to hit boundaries as well. South Zone got past the 300-run mark. The partnership was broken by Mohan in the 99th over. Milind lost his wicket for a 68-ball 43 featuring seven fours. Few overs later, Tripurna Vijay got run out for a single. After a wicketless innings, Mohammed Siraj couldn't do much with the bat and was dismissed lbw by Mukesh Kumar. In the next over, Varma got out caught and bowled to Md Kounain Quraishi for 99. He faced 211 balls and hit nine fours, taking South Zone's score to 336.

Kishan chose not to enforce the follow on despite a 372-run lead. He did not want his bowlers to toil hard in he heat at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, especially in the absence of an injured left-arm spinner Anukul Roy.

No Sooryavanshi show

Abhimanyu Easwaran couldn't get going. He became Siraj's first wicket of the match. Easwaran got caught at first slip by Devdutt Padikkal. In the next over, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got out stumped to Vijay after scoring just eight runs. Kishan and Mohan remained unbeaten until the tea break with East Zone 95/2.

Early into the last session of Day 4, Kishan reached his fifty from 66 balls. In the next over, he took on Vijay with two sixes and as many fours. He missed out on a chance to score another ton. In the 34th over, Kishan lost his wicket to MD Nidheesh's slower one. He scored 80 runs from 98 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. In the 37th over, Mohan reached his fifty from 81 deliveries. In the next over, he got out lbw to Shaik Rasheed for an 85-ball 52.

Then, Sudip Kumar Gharami was run out after a mix-up with Kumar Kushagra. Quraishi looked to attack and hit a few boundaries. He remained unbeaten on 30-ball 26. On the other end, Kushagra scored 34 runs from 55 deliveries. East Zone were 212/5 at the end of Day 4's play. It will be interesting to see when Kishan decides to declare the innings as East Zone already have a 584-run lead in the bag. The captain may look to give Shami and Mukesh a crack at South Zone batters again.
