England beat India by 20 runs in a rain-affected warm-up match ahead of the ICC U19 Men’s World Cup 2026 on Monday (January 12) in Bulawayo. This was the second and final warm-up game for both teams before the mega event.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi failed to perform
India captain Ayush Mhatre won the toss and chose to bat first, but England made a strong start with the ball. Sebastian Morgan got the early breakthrough, picking up 14-year-old opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi's wicket in the third over. The left-hander from Bihar managed just 1 run from four balls. Morgan then picked up his second wicket in the seventh over by dismissing Vedant Trivedi, leaving India in a spot of bother at 40 for 2.
India tried to shift momentum
Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra tried to steady the innings, but James Minto dealt India another blow just after the power play by picking up two quick wickets. With the score at 74 for 4, Ambrish Sukumar and Abhigyan Kundu rebuild the innings.
The duo batted for nearly 20 overs and added an important 97-run stand to bring India back into the clash. Sukumar was eventually dismissed for 48 by Manny Lumsden. Kundu then found support from Harvansh Pangalia, and the duo stitched 36 quick runs to take India past the 200-run mark.
Pangalia was dismissed in the 40th over, but Kanishk Chouhan provided a late boost with an unbeaten 45 off 36 balls. James Minto finished with an impressive five-wicket haul, removing Kundu and Mohamed Enaan to end with figures of 5 for 34, as India posted 295 for 8 in their 50 overs. Kundu was the top scorer with 82 off 99 balls, while Mhatre contributed 49 from 40 deliveries.
England's chase
In reply, India struck early when Henil Patel dismissed Ben Dawkins in the second over. England recovered well through Joe Moores and Ben Mayers, who added 77 runs for the second wicket. Khilan Patel broke the partnership by dismissing Mayers for 37 and then removed Moores for 46 soon after, reducing England to 104 for 3.
Captain Thomas Rew and Caleb Falconer then took control of the chase, adding an unbeaten 92-run partnership. When rain stopped play, England were 196 for 3 in 34.3 overs, comfortably ahead of the revised DLS target of 177. Rew remained unbeaten on 71 off 66 balls, while Falconer supported him with 29 off 43 balls. Khilan Patel was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 38, while Henil Patel picked up the other wicket.
