The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India's 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026, which will take centre stage from June 14. Harmanpreet Kaur will captain the side, while Smriti Mandhana is named as the vice captain.
Big blow for Indian team
Unfortunately, Amanjot Kaur could not find a spot in the squad for the upcoming marquee event, due to an injury. The star all-rounder suffered a back injury after playing the ODI and T20I series against Australia in February. As an outcome, she got sidelined from the recently concluded five-game T20I series against South Africa and ultimately the upcoming ICC event in June.
Amanjot Kaur played a key role in India's maiden ICC Women's ODI World Cup triumph, amassing 146 runs and picking up six wickets in seven games. Kaur dropped an amazing fielding performance against South Africa in the final with a magical catch and run-out, due to which she was awarded with the Best Fielder of the Match medal.
Opening up on Amanjot Kaur's injury, Harmanpreet Kaur revealed that the star all-rounder will need another three-four months to achieve full fitness.
Other key selection decisions
Apart from Amanjot Kaur, all-rounder Anushka Sharma, bowler Kashvee Gautam and wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry also missed out on a place in the squad.
Despite showing promise in the debut series against South Africa, Anushka Sharma was not included in the squad as the selectors wanted to go with more experienced options, as Nandini Sharma got selected in her place.
Meanwhile, Kashwee Gautam lost her place because of a injury she picked up after the completion of the South Africa Tour. Radha Yadav would take place Kashwee in India's squad.
Senior wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia comes back to replace Uma Chetry, who achieved full fitness just before the marquee tournament.
Star opener Pratika Rawal is also missing from the squad, as the selectors consider her as the longer-format specialist. The right-handed batter last featured in a three-match series against Australia.
