Zimbabwe legend Brendan Taylor marked a significant milestone by scoring his seventh Test century during the match against Afghanistan in Sharjah. This century was especially noteworthy as it was his first in Test cricket since November 2018. Over the past years, Taylor faced numerous challenges, including limited opportunities in Test matches and a 3.5-year ban for breaching the ICC's anti-corruption code. Despite these struggles, Taylor's performance reflected resilience and determination, showing that a comeback is possible even after setbacks.

During this innings, Taylor entered an elite group of cricketers in the 21st century who have scored Test centuries after turning 40. This achievement places him alongside notable players such as former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq and West Indian legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul. At 40 years and 272 days old, Taylor became the third cricketer this century to reach a Test hundred beyond the age of 40, securing the second-highest score by an over-40 batsman.
Misbah-ul-Haq remains the oldest centurion in modern cricket, scoring 114 against England at Lord's at age 42 in 2016. Shivnarine Chanderpaul also scored a Test century past 40 years of age during a match against Bangladesh in 2014. Taylor's accomplishment contributes significantly to this exclusive list, emphasizing his enduring skill and fitness at an advanced cricketing age.
