Indian team challenges and Mohammad Shami's career outlook

Mohammed Shami has finally opened up about his continued absence from the Indian cricket team, revealing that neither the former nor the current selection committee has communicated with him about his future.

In an exclusive interaction with Sports Tak, the veteran India pacer gave a blunt response when asked about his continued snub: "You're asking the wrong question from the wrong person." Shami also questioned why selectors would speak to him when he is neither in the team nor under a central contract.

Despite his absence from international cricket, Shami has not given up hope of an India comeback. The Bengal pacer is focused on the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season and helping his state win the title.

Shami also addressed rumours about his fitness, explaining that his bowling workload depends on the team's requirements and pitch conditions. He dismissed any suggestion that he is thinking about retirement, insisting that his focus remains on his skills and the matches he gets to play.

The 36-year-old had an impressive outing against Delhi in Bengal's Ranji Trophy opener, taking five wickets across both innings. He will next be in action when Bengal face Kerala from October 26.
