Yashavi Jaiswals recent form in red ball cricket has raised concerns ahead of the ongoing New Zealand series.

Jaiswal has struggled in the current series with New Zealand, scoring only 22 runs and a duck so far. This slump is part of a larger trend of poor performances in red ball cricket throughout 2026. His difficulties started with inconsistent scores against Sri Lanka, with innings including 0 and 61 not out. Despite the unbeaten 61 that hinted at possible recovery, subsequent matches saw further failures including zeroes and low scores that have impacted his confidence and place in the team.
Since that promising 61 not out, Jaiswals performance has been inconsistent in multiple matches. In the series against Sri Lanka, he recorded scores of 32, 0, and 45 in various innings. His struggles continued in domestic cricket where he was dismissed cheaply again. In the current test matches in New Zealand, his performance remains underwhelming with scores like 17, 5, and another duck. Over nine innings, four ducks have significantly hurt his batting average and reliability as a batsman.
The recurring poor performances and lack of consistency suggest that Jaiswals confidence has been shaken. Being benched repeatedly in white ball formats has not helped his case either, as regular absence from the playing XI tends to affect a player’s momentum and self-belief. This situation puts pressure on the Indian selectors and coaching staff to reconsider his role given the upcoming crucial matches in the series.
