AUS vs WI: Australia demolish West Indies by 10 wickets in Adelaide Test after Travis Head's ton and Josh Hazlewood's 9 wickets

Australia clinched a dominant 10-wicket win over the West Indies in the first of their two-match Test series, wrapping up the victory swiftly in just over two days at the Adelaide Oval. The situation looked dire for the West Indies at the close of Day 2, as they were lagging behind by 25 runs with only four wickets remaining. In their second innings, the West Indies found themselves precariously positioned at 94 for nine, teetering on the brink of an innings defeat.

However, a last-wicket stand of 26 runs between Kemar Roach and Shamarh Joseph prevented that outcome, setting Australia a modest target of 26 runs.

Josh Hazlewood was instrumental in Australia's bowling success, claiming five wickets and playing a key role in bowling out the West Indies for 120 runs in 35.2 overs. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon also made significant contributions, each taking two wickets.

The chase for the small target unfolded in front of an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 17,000 spectators. Australia reached the target in just 6.4 overs, with Steve Smith remaining unbeaten at 11 runs, which included two boundaries.

Australia's run-chase did encounter a setback when Usman Khawaja was forced to retire hurt after scoring nine runs. In the seventh over, a delivery from Joseph struck Khawaja's helmet, leading to him leaving the field with apparent discomfort in his cheekbone area.

Marnus Labuschagne scored the winning runs in the same over, sealing a resounding victory for Australia. The standout performer of the match, Travis Head, was named Player of the Match for his exceptional 119-run knock off 134 balls in the first innings.

The teams now look forward to the second and final Test, which is set to commence on January 25 at The Gabba in Brisbane. This match promises to be another exciting encounter, as Australia seeks to maintain their winning momentum while the West Indies aim to bounce back.
