In addition to Travis Head's departure, the Australian squad has seen further adjustments.

Josh Hazlewood has been summoned to the team for the second ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Cricket Australia has decided to withdraw Travis Head from the white ball teams for the remainder of the series against the West Indies, as revealed in a statement on February 3rd. This decision follows a series of disappointing performances from Head, underscored by his recent King Pair in a Test match and a mere four runs scored in the first ODI against the Windies.

Post-ODI World Cup 2023, Head's contributions to the Australian team have been underwhelming, despite hitting a century in the first Test against the West Indies. Over the last 9 matches since that World Cup final, Head has struggled to leave a mark on the Australian batting order.

Head is set to miss the upcoming two ODIs and the subsequent three T20Is, opting instead for a break in Adelaide before joining the Australian squad for their tour in New Zealand. While no direct replacement for Head has been named, the young and promising Jake Fraser-McGurk is anticipated to step into the series. At just 21 years old, Fraser-McGurk's reputation for quick scoring could provide a much-needed boost to the Australian lineup.

Josh Hazlewood included in 2nd ODI squad; Xavier Bartlett rested

In addition to Head's departure, the Australian squad has seen further adjustments. Josh Hazlewood has been summoned to the team for the second ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground, adding his seasoned skills to the mix. Meanwhile, Xavier Bartlett, who impressed on his international debut, will be given a rest for the second ODI. This move by Cricket Australia aims to carefully manage Bartlett's workload, especially after his recovery from a back injury that sidelined him during the early part of the domestic season.

These changes come at a critical time for the Australian team as they look to balance maintaining form and managing player workload. With the series progressing and new talents like Fraser-McGurk potentially making their debut, Australia's strategy and team dynamics are under the spotlight, highlighting the team's depth and adaptability in the face of challenges.
