Tim Paine lashed out at Adam Gilchrist and other ex-Australian cricketers for celebrating West Indies' win.

Former Australian captain Tim Paine was not happy with former Australian cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Ricky Ponting for praising the West Indies on their recent win at the Gabba. He believed it was not a good thing for the Pat Cummins-led side and it made him uncomfortable.

West Indies pulled off a historic victory by just eight runs against Australia in the second Test at the Gabba and leveled the two-match Test series at 1-1. This performance received enormous praise from the entire cricket fraternity. West Indies legends Brian Lara and Carl Hooper were even left emotional after the game.

Former Australian greats also praised the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side and called it a brilliant moment in the history of the game.

Paine was not impressed by this and could not understand why former Australian cricketers barracked against their team.

“I get it from a fan’s point of view, it annoys me when I hear past players commentating and almost barracking. I find that really hard to listen to. It was awesome for the West Indies. It was not great for Australia. It wasn’t a great performance. I just don’t like it. It makes me uncomfortable. Why are you barracking against your team? That you played in?” said Paine SEN Tassie.

This was also the first time in history that Australia lost a pink-ball Test. Before the defeat against the West Indies, Australia had won 11 out of their 11 pink-ball Tests.

Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Ian Healy also voiced his displeasure at Pat Cummins. He slammed the Australian side and criticised them for not being able to chase the 216 runs.

“You know, I wasn’t that happy with Pat Cummins and how he dealt with. He’s a bit too glowing of the West Indies. I like that bit, but I don’t think he’s paying enough attention to his side’s underachievement. Do you reckon they played brilliantly? We only had to chase 216, which means they didn’t play brilliantly until the last day. Australia let them into that match big time,” said Healy while speaking to SEN Tassie.
