Ryan ten Doeschate gave an update on Sai Sudharsan's participation in upcoming Test vs West Indies

Sudharsan flopped with the bat in 1st Test

India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate is confident that Sai Sudharsan can improve his Test form soon and has backed him to deliver in upcoming matches. This comes after the latter had to face a lot of scrutiny for his poor performance in the first match. Notably, the Indian batters dominated on the Ahmedabad track in the previous track, but Sudharsan was dismissed for just seven runs. This led to many questioning his place in India's playing XI in the format.

However, ten Doeschate showed faith in Sudharsan's capability and remarked that he just needs top believe in himself more in order to get better results. He further remarked that they know he is good enough to play for the team and now he just has to prove to the team that he deserves his spot in the playing XI.

"I think he's under no illusion, and you can't hide away from the fact that you do fight for a spot in this environment. You saw Karun Nair get four Test matches in England. There are a lot of good players about to get on the heels of whoever has possession of that spot. So, Sai just needs to focus on believing in himself. We've obviously got a lot of belief in him to give him that number three spot. He's playing pretty nicely. Probably a tactical mistake the other day, which you'll be aware of, playing back to a ball so early in the innings," ten Doeschate said in the pre-match press-conference.

"And we just want him to go in there and just bat. We know he's good enough and now he has to find a way of scoring runs and showing the rest of the country and the rest of the team that he's good enough to hold that spot. But certainly, no panic or no worry. Particularly in a winning team, you can absorb that," he added.

Sudharsan's Test career so far

Sudharsan had made his Test debut during India's five-match Test series against England. However, he wasn't able to impress much and finished the assignment with 140 runs in six innings. He also recorded ducks in two of those innings and wasn't able to make a great impression. But, he was backed by the selectors for the West Indies series as well and now he is expected to improve his performance.

When will the second Test begin?

Meanwhile, the second and final Test of the series between India and West Indies is set to be played at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi from October 10. The Men in Blue lead by 1-0 after their victory in Ahmedabad and will be hoping to seal the series by winning the upcoming match as well.
