During the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) match on November 21, Brisbane Heat incurred a five-run penalty after Amelia Kerr caught the ball with a towel against Sydney Sixers at the Allan Border Field. In the 10th over, Kerr, bowling on leg-stump, saw Ashleigh Gardner drive her for a single.

When the fielder at long-on threw the ball, Kerr caught it using a towel, prompting the on-field umpire to impose a penalty of five runs. The match hung in the balance as the Sixers needed 103 runs to win from 10.5 overs.

While Kerr struggled with the ball, she excelled with the bat. With the Heat at 19 for two in 3.4 overs, Kerr played a pivotal role, scoring 64 runs off 44 balls with 10 fours. Unfortunately, she was run out in the last over, helping the Heat post a total of 176 for the loss of seven wickets.

Notably, Kerr's elder sister, Jess Kerr, displayed brilliance with the ball, finishing with figures of 4-0-20-2 and securing the wickets of Bess Heath and Jess Jonassen.

The victory propelled the Sixers to fifth place in the table with 12 points and a net run rate of -0.362. Meanwhile, the Heat secured the fourth position with 14 points and a net run rate of 0.134. Both teams have one match remaining in the league stage, keeping their playoff aspirations alive.

On the WBBL table, the Brisbane Heat, holding the fourth position in the standings, face the possibility of missing the playoffs if they suffer a defeat in Friday's match against the Sydney Thunder in Adelaide. Meanwhile, the Sydney Sixers, placed just below the Heat, have a chance to surpass them on the leaderboard pending net run rate, should they emerge victorious in Sunday's Sydney derby at the SCG.
