Those watching it live were stunned and thousands witnessing the action on television were spell-bound after Delhi Capitals' (DC) Jemimah Rodrigues pulled off a jaw-dropping catch during the Women's Premier League (WPL) match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and DC at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navy Mumbai on March 9 (Thursday). The spectacular moment occurred on the third ball of the 12th over during Mumbai's run chase when Hayley Matthew mistimed her shot off Alice Capsey's bowling.

The ball went high in the night sky but it didn't have enough power to earn Matthews the desired result. Rodrigues came running from the long-off fence to the 30-yard circle before diving full length to complete an acrobatic catch.

Meanwhile, Issy Wong, Saika Ishaque and Matthews delivered impeccable spells with the ball as Mumbai strengthened their dominance on the WPL. Harmanpreet Kaur's side outmuscled Delhi Capitals and registered a resounding eight-wicket win to consolidate their position at the top of the points table. The Women in Blue registered their third consecutive win and maintained their unbeaten run in the competition. Mumbai now has six points in three games while Delhi has four points in as many matches.

Chasing a below-par target of 106 runs, Yastika Bhatia and in-form Hayley Matthews combined for a 65-run alliance for the opening wickets and killed any hopes of a miracle for Delhi. Bhatia scored 41 runs off 32 balls with the help of eight fours while Matthews added 32 runs off 31 balls with help of six wickets.

Nat Sciver-Brunt (23 not out off 19 balls) and Harmanpreet (11 not out off eight balls) then combined for an unbeaten partnership of 32 runs to take Mumbai Indians to the promised land.

For Delhi, Tara Norris and Alice Capsey bagged a wicket each while all other bowlers lacked venom against a dominant Mumbai batting line-up.

Earlier, Delhi skipper Meg Lanning won the toss and elected to bat first but her decision backfired quickly as the batting line-up collapsed like a pack of cards and the team could only manage a score of 105/10 in 18 overs.
