Jemimah Rodrigues stepped up when it mattered most, playing a calm and responsible knock to guide Delhi Capitals to a crucial seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League on Tuesday. Chasing a tricky target, Jemimah held one end together and scored an unbeaten fifty, helping Delhi get over the line with an over to spare.
Mumbai Indians failed to get a good start
Asked to bat first on a slow pitch, Mumbai Indians once again struggled early in the powerplay. Nat Sciver-Brunt was the standout for them, scoring an unbeaten 66 off 45 balls to lift Mumbai to 154 for 5. For Delhi, the chase began well with Lizelle Lee (46 off 28) and Shafali Verma (29 off 24) giving the team a solid start. However, quick wickets in the middle overs put pressure back on Delhi before Jemimah (51 not out off 37) settled things down and finished the job.
Delhi's chase
Experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp stayed with Jemimah at the end, scoring 10 not out off six balls and sealing the win with a six. The victory was Delhi Capitals’ second in five matches, while Mumbai Indians slipped to their fourth loss in six games.

Earlier in the chase, Shafali Verma was bowled trying to play a sweep off left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma. Lizelle Lee, who has been in great form this season, was later given out stumped off Amanjot Kaur after losing her balance. Despite Hayley Matthews returning from injury, Mumbai’s opening pair once again failed to provide a strong start, with both Matthews and Sajeevan Sajana getting out cheaply.
For Delhi, Marizanne Kapp was outstanding with the ball, giving away just eight runs in her four overs and also dismissing Matthews. Mumbai were once again carried by the experienced pair of Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet, who scored 41 off 33 balls.
Sciver-Brunt’s innings included six fours and two sixes and marked her third fifty-plus score of the season. However, apart from her effort, Mumbai’s batting lacked depth. With this being only the second match at the venue, batting continued to be challenging compared to the higher-scoring games seen in Navi Mumbai.
Harmnpreet Kaur's on MI's effort
After the match, Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted her side needs to do better in the powerplay with both bat and ball.
