IPL batting sensation wreaks havoc with bowling in England, notches a four-wicket haul

Indian batter Ashutosh Sharma, who plays as a finisher for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), continues to impress in England, this time with the ball, registering his career-best bowling figures during Hampshire's Metro Bank One Day Cup clash against Middlesex. Although his four-wicket haul wasn't enough to prevent defeat, the Railways star once again showcased his growing credentials as a handy bowling option.

Ashutosh, however, endured another disappointing outing with the bat after being dismissed without opening his account.

Ashutosh Sharma claims career-best four-wicket haul

Batting first, Middlesex posted 284/8 in 50 overs, but not before Ashutosh produced a memorable spell for Hampshire.

The 27-year-old finished with 4/54 in nine overs, making him Hampshire's most successful bowler of the match. His spell began with the crucial wicket of opener Nathan Fernandes, who was dismissed for 45 after adding 103 runs for the opening partnership. Fernandes chipped Ashutosh's delivery to mid-on, giving Hampshire an important breakthrough.

Ashutosh Sharma later dismissed Joe Cracknell (17), Zafar Gohar (0) and JA Nelson (1), claiming three of the six wickets Middlesex lost during the closing stages of the innings as Hampshire restricted the visitors to just 41 runs in the final seven overs.

Batting struggles continue despite bowling heroics

Despite starring with the ball, Ashutosh could not contribute with the bat as Hampshire were bundled out for 124, handing Middlesex a comprehensive victory.

Speaking after the match, Ashutosh expressed hope that his performances in England could earn him more bowling opportunities in the IPL.

"Hopefully, I'll get more opportunities to bowl in the next IPL season because people have seen me bowl here. I was trying to come here last year as well. I was telling some people during the IPL that I wanted to come here and play the One Day Cup."

The Indian all-rounder also revealed that he had been keen to play in England's domestic one-day competition for some time and was delighted to finally get the opportunity after Hampshire had an overseas player slot available.

Ashutosh Sharma had already made an impact on his Metro Bank One Day Cup debut, picking up three wickets and contributing to a run-out as Hampshire defeated Yorkshire by 50 runs, even though he managed just 10 runs with the bat.
