Singapore Open 2026: Satwik-Chirag bully world-champion duo to storm into second straight final

India's star men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty continued their sensational run at the Singapore Open 2026, producing a dominant display against the world's top-ranked pair to secure a place in their second consecutive BWF World Tour final.

The Indian duo delivered one of their finest performances of the season, defeating reigning world champions Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in straight games to keep India's hopes alive in the prestigious Super 750 tournament.

Satwik-Chirag beat world No. 1 pair to reach Singapore Open final

Ranked fourth in the world, Satwik and Chirag defeated South Korea's top-seeded duo Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae 21-19, 21-18 in a thrilling semifinal contest that lasted 52 minutes.

The victory marked the Indian pair's first-ever win over the South Korean combination, who had defeated them twice last year at the Malaysia Open and China Masters.

The opening game witnessed a remarkable comeback from the Indians. Trailing 13-8 at one stage, Satwik and Chirag slowly clawed their way back into the contest before drawing level at 17-17 and eventually closing out the game 21-19.

The second game followed a similar pattern as the world champions established a 14-11 advantage. However, the Indian pair shifted gears at the perfect moment, reeling off six consecutive points to seize complete control of the match.

Their aggressive approach and flawless execution proved too much for the Koreans, who suffered their first defeat in 35 matches dating back to last year's Denmark Open.

Indian duo eye title after extending impressive 2026 run

The Singapore Open final will be Satwik and Chirag's second consecutive BWF World Tour final appearance this season.

The Indian pair had finished runners-up at the Thailand Open earlier this month after losing to Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin in the title clash.

This time, however, they will have another opportunity to lift silverware when they face Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in Sunday's final.

Satwik and Chirag are also the last Indian representatives left in the tournament after the country's singles and mixed doubles challenges came to an end earlier in the competition.
