France have booked their place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay in a tense round-of-16 clash. Kylian Mbappé was the hero for Les Bleus, coolly converting a second-half penalty to secure the win and notch his 19th career World Cup goal. 

The goal came in the 70th minute of the second half before Didier Deschamps’ side advanced to the next round. The strike proved decisive in a match dominated by Paraguay’s resolute defensive setup and physical approach. Paraguay, who had upset Germany earlier in the tournament, frustrated the French and committed to defending.

The result sets up an intriguing quarter-final meeting with Morocco. France will now look to build on this hard-earned progress as they chase a second World Cup title in four years. Morocco, on the other hand, are coming off a 3- 0 victory over co-hosts Canada earlier tonight.
