Is France better than Spain? Lamine Yamal's brutal take on debate
Yamal’s brutal take has been something everyone has been talking about. The player doesn't agree that France is better than Spain. In a recent interview with El Partidazo de Cope, Yamal said:
"France have not beaten us in two years, so they can't be considered better than us,"
Yamal added:
"They're at an excellent level [and] have wonderful players, but I don't think they're above anyone. For me, there's no one above Spain."
Spain have dominated recent encounters with France. La Roja eliminated the French in the Euro 2024 semi-finals with Yamal scoring a memorable wondergoal and again defeated them 5-4 in the 2025 UEFA Nations League semi-final, where Yamal netted a brace.
The star player's confidence reflects Spain's strong form and his own rapid rise as one of world football's brightest talents. However, with the 2026 World Cup underway and both nations seen as title contenders, many fans and pundits expect the teams could meet again in the knockout stages, potentially turning Yamal's words into extra motivation for France.
