After the loss, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner shared an emotional post on his official Instagram handle, addressing the 0-1 loss to Spain in the World Cup final. The Argentine icon admitted that the loss is really heavy for him and it would take some time for him to come out of it.
While continuing, Messi expressed gratitude towards everyone who backed Argentina till the very end, saying it was an honor to don the Argentina jersey.
"The pain is immense. I would have loved to finish this journey with another trophy for all of you, but sometimes things don't go as planned. I want to thank everyone who supported us during every minute of this World Cup. It was an honour to represent this shirt," wrote Lionel Messi.
