WATCH: Donald Trump steals spotlight during Spain's FIFA World Cup trophy celebration

Spain claimed a commanding 1-0 win over Argentina in the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Monday, July 20 (As per IST) at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford. But, other than Spain's historic triumph a moment occurred involving US President Donald Trump during the celebrations which grabbed eyeballs of all the football fans.

During the post-game presentation, Trump presented the prestigious World Cup trophy to Spain skipper Rodri, stayed at the podium while the Spanish players came together to pose for the iconic title-lifting moment. Soon after the moment took place, it went viral across all social media platforms.

What actually happened?

After Spain's dramatic win over the three-time world champions, FIFA President Gianni Infantino and US President Donald Trump walked onto the field for the medal and trophy ceremony. Ahead of the celebrations, Infantino revealed that Trump would present the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy to Rodri.

Following the medal distribution, Trump gave the World Cup trophy to Rodri. As the Spain skipper signalled his  teammates to come together for the traditional trophy-lifting celebration, Trump initially stayed on the podium along with the Spanish players rather than stepping aside.

It was seen that Rodri signalled Trump to step aside so the entire Spanish team could celebrate their second world title. A few moments later, Infantino escorted the US President away from the podium, letting the Spanish players to celebrate their momentum.

Second World title for Spain

It was Spain's second World title after the first came in the 2010 edition, where they defeated Netherlands in the final. In the 2010 final, Spain's star midfielder Andres Iniesta was the only scorer in the summit clash.
