Al-Nassr boss Jorge Jesus has admitted that things have not been good for Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that his side must improve on set-pieces. His statement came after the Knights of Najd claimed a close 3-2 win over 10-man Al-Shabab in the Saudi Pro league on Saturday, January 17.
Poor show from Al-Nassr
Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr were on a poor run of form going into the game, having lost their last three league games. However, Saad Balobaid's second-minute own-goal ensure they had a great start. Kingsley Coman then fired home six minutes later to double their lead.
Sadly, Mohamed Simakan scored an own goal in the 31st minute to halve the deficit. Al-Shabab then equalized the scores in the 53rd minute after Carlos Junior scored from a counter-attack. Abdulrahman Ghareeb won the game for Al-Nass after finding the left corner after a corner in the 76th minute.
However, during the post-match press conference, Jesus was far from satisfied by their set-pieces as he said:
“We need to improve on set pieces, and we have the best set-piece taker, Cristiano Ronaldo. It’s true that things haven’t gone well for him recently, and we want to work on it more in the coming period.”
Cristiano Ronaldo's stats this season
Cristiano Ronaldo has amassed 16 goals and three assists in 19 games across all competitions. But Al-Nassr have notably struggled to cater to his strengths in recent weeks with their set-piece delivery. As an outcome, the 40-year-old produced two goals in their last four games including one penalty.
