Real Madrid is set to face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. The Los Blancos, who are looking for a record-extending 16th this season, would need a healthy squad against the tough opponents. However, just ahead of the clash, the team has received concerning news on their star goalkeeper.
Big blow for Real Madrid; star goalkeeper ruled out of Bayern Munich UCL clash
Thibaut Courtois is set to be sidelined for around six weeks, as per a report by ESPN. The Real Madrid star sustained a thigh injury during Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City and was replaced by Andriy Lunin in the second half.
Real Madrid released a statement regarding the goalkeeper’s status on his injury, which read:
"Following tests carried out today on our player Thibaut Courtois by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right quadriceps.”
The Spanish giants stated that they are currently monitoring his recovery. This will be a huge blow for Alvaro Arbeloa's side, who will be without their talismanic keeper for the upcoming La Liga fixture against Atletico Madrid on Sunday. The Belgian has also been ruled out of both legs of their Champions League quarterfinal against Bayern Munich.
