Bayern Munich confirm contract talks with Konrad Laimer have temporarily stalled.

Salary expectations reportedly remain the main obstacle in negotiations.

Bayern Munich have encountered a temporary setback in their efforts to secure the long-term future of midfielder Konrad Laimer, with contract negotiations currently on hold. The development was confirmed by the club’s sporting director Max Eberl, who addressed the situation ahead of Bayern’s Champions League trip to face Atalanta.

Laimer, a key figure in Bayern’s setup this season, remains under contract with the German giants until June 2027. Despite his growing importance to the squad, both parties have yet to reach an agreement on the terms of a potential extension.

Speaking about the ongoing situation, Eberl acknowledged that discussions had taken place but have now paused for the time being.

“We would like to extend with Konny. There were talks, at the moment it's resting,” Eberl stated.

He also dismissed suggestions that tensions exist between the club and the player, emphasizing that the pause in negotiations is not the result of any conflict.

“It is also not bad, that's without resentment and without malice.”

Salary gap emerges as key issue

The primary obstacle in negotiations appears to be a notable gap between Bayern Munich’s financial offer and the expectations from Laimer’s camp. The Austrian international currently earns between €8 million and €9 million per year with the Bavarian club.

However, reports indicate that Laimer’s representatives are seeking a significant salary increase as part of a new contract. The proposed deal is believed to be worth around €15 million annually including bonuses, which would represent a major pay rise.

With Laimer set to turn 29 in May, the midfielder’s camp reportedly views the next contract as a crucial opportunity to secure one of the most lucrative deals of his career.

Bayern aim to maintain wage structure

While Bayern Munich are keen to keep Laimer as part of their long-term plans, the club’s leadership is cautious about adjusting their wage structure. The hierarchy at the Allianz Arena has been careful to maintain financial balance within the squad.

For context, recent signings Luis Diaz and Michael Olise are believed to earn approximately €14 million and €13 million per year respectively. Matching or exceeding those figures for Laimer could disrupt the club’s established salary framework.

As a result, discussions have temporarily stalled while both sides assess their positions.
