Former football star Carlos Tevez has revealed plans to host a farewell match in Buenos Aires and he’s hoping to bring two of the game’s biggest legends, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, together for the special occasion.
Though the exact date is still undecided, Tevez confirmed in a recent interview on streaming platform Olga that organizing his farewell game is very much in motion.
What did Carlos Tevez say about his farewell game?
Yes, I’m going to do it [farewell game]. I probably will do it. We just have to figure out when. It’s not easy, said Tevez, 41, during the interview.
The Argentine forward, who officially retired in 2022, enjoyed a stellar career that spanned clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, Juventus, and Boca Juniors.
A legendary lineup
When asked whether Messi and Ronaldo — who together boast an astonishing 13 Ballon d’Or titles — would feature on opposing teams, Tevez simply replied,
We’ll get them together.
The event is expected to be held at La Bombonera, the iconic stadium of Boca Juniors, where Tevez rose to hero status and enjoyed multiple stints throughout his career.
Tevez joked about the effort it might take to bring Ronaldo to Argentina, stating:
I’ll go get him myself.
Shared glory with football giants
Tevez shares a rich history with both players. He played alongside Messi for the Argentina national team from 2005 to 2015, forming part of a golden generation of talent. His time with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United was equally decorated, with the duo winning six titles together, including two Premier League championships and a UEFA Champions League crown.
Despite their global commitments and current clubs, Tevez revealed that he still maintains a relationship with both icons.
Life after football
Since hanging up his boots, Tevez has ventured into coaching, having managed Rosario Central and Independiente in Argentina. However, he currently remains unattached to any club.
As the football world watches in anticipation, a farewell match featuring Messi and Ronaldo on the same field once more — this time in honor of Tevez — would undoubtedly be a historic moment.
