Cristiano Ronaldo’s relationship with Al-Nassr appears to have reached another breaking point, with fresh reports suggesting the Portuguese superstar has warned he could leave the club this summer.
According to CBS Sports, Ronaldo’s growing frustration stems from recent transfer decisions made by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which oversees multiple clubs in the league.
Strike action raises serious questions
Ronaldo was notably absent from Al-Nassr’s 1–0 victory over Al-Riyadh, a move described as protest action rather than a fitness issue.
The report states that his decision followed PIF’s controversial transfer of Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal, a direct title rival.
While Al-Hilal bolstered their squad, Al-Nassr were left without comparable reinforcements, intensifying Cristiano Ronaldo’s dissatisfaction.
CBS Sports claims the 40-year-old has since warned Saudi officials that he is prepared to leave both Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League altogether if clarity over the club’s sporting direction is not provided.
Although Ronaldo has returned to training ahead of the upcoming clash with Al-Ittihad, it remains uncertain whether he will feature as tensions linger.
Feeling “betrayed” amid title race pressure
Per the report, a source close to the situation revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo feels “betrayed” by the recent developments and is now seeking assurances regarding Al-Nassr’s ambitions.
His contract reportedly includes a €50 million release clause, potentially opening the door to an exit should matters escalate further.
Al-Hilal currently sit four points clear of Al-Nassr at the top of the Saudi Pro League standings. Adding to the frustration, Benzema scored a hat-trick on his Al-Hilal debut in a dominant win over Akhdoud, underlining the immediate impact of the move Ronaldo is protesting.
Despite being on track to sign what has been described as the most lucrative deal in world football, Ronaldo has yet to win the Saudi Pro League since arriving in the country.
Public criticism follows Ronaldo standoff
Cristiano Ronaldo’s stance has also drawn criticism from former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy, who questioned the forward’s conduct during the dispute.
“Maybe Ronaldo could give some of his earnings to the club to then help them get more players. I've never heard of something so ridiculous in all my life, self-indulgent nonsense,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
With Al-Nassr facing mounting pressure both on and off the pitch, Ronaldo’s future in Saudi Arabia is once again under intense scrutiny.
