Mikel Arteta's Arsenal have always faced criticisms regarding their style of play in the Premier League, but the Gunners continued with their way of playing matches.
Arsenal's pragmatism approach
In the ongoing season, Arsenal are leading the league table and have a firm grip on the Premier League title. For the first time in 22 years, Arsenal are so close to lift the title. Under the guidance of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal won the Premier League in 2004 and since then their search for titles continued.
Following Arsenal's 1-0 win over Brighton, former Premier League manager Alan Pardew slammed Mikel Arteta's pragmatism approach towards the games.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler also took a dig at the Gunners' time wasting strategy as Arsenal's cumulative restarts totalled almost 31 minutes, most in the league this season.
Alan Pardew expressed his agreement on Fabian Hurzeler's opinion saying The Gunners are so professional.
"When I'm looking at them with my football manager's head on, they're so professional, they do every bit of gamesmanship to get it over the line," said Alan Pardew to talkSPORT.
Pardew added that Arsenal are the favorites to lift the Premier League title noting their current status on the standings and their style of play denies opponents to outscore them.
"At the moment it looks like Arsenal are going to see it through. There'll be an asterisk next to their name because you've only got to look at them really in these type of performances and say it's just a functional display. It's a professional, functional display. They're good, they're strong, they're powerful. But there is nothing beautiful about them. That's the truth," added Pardew.
Arsenal's strong position in the Premier League
Currently, Arsenal sit atop of the Premier League standings with 67 points earned in 30 games, where they won 20 and lost 3 matches, and managed to draw 7 games.
