Barcelona icon Lionel Messi will not vote in the club's upcoming presidential election even as the current president resigned on Monday, February 9, contesting for re-election. Laporta is serving his second term in March 2021.

One of the most significant moments of Laporta's second tenure as a President was Messi's departure in the season of 2021 despite promising to renew his contract. Because of their financial issues, Barca could not offer Messi an extension, leading to the Argentine's unfortunate exit, joining PSG on a free transfer that summer.

Now at MLS based side Inter Miami since the summer of 2023, Messi won't be involved in Barca's latest election process as Laporta himself pitted against Victor Font, as claimed by DiarioSPORT. Since his exit from Camp Nou, Messi reportedly shares a broken relationship with Laporta is not on talking terms.

The aforementioned report also adds that Messi and his entourage won't have a meeting with any of the Barcelona presidential candidates for the position, as per Sporting News.

There is a slight chance of the icon getting involved in the club's next polls in five years' time, as he wants to settle in Barcelona - where he still owns a home - following his playing days are over.
