FC Barcelona shocked everyone with a relentless attacking show to defeat Newcastle United 7-2 at Camp Nou, securing an 8-3 aggregate win and advancing into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League on March 18.
Entertaining first half
Barcelona's star forward, Raphinha started the scoring in the sixth minute of the game with a slick move between Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal. Soon after the goal scored by the hosts, Newcastle made a comeback as Anthony Elanga scored a quick brace (15', 28') set up by Lewis Hall, to put the visitors on par.
In the 18th minute, Marc Bernal leveled Barcelona with the visitors, by netting a close range goal, before Lamine Yamal converted a penalty which was won by Raphinha in the first-half stoppage time (45+7) to restore the lead.
Masterclass second half from Barcelona
In the second half, Barcelona completely dominated the English club, as Fermin Lopez extended the lead in the 52nd minute of the game by breaking through the defense in a very stylish manner. Just four minutes later, Robert Lewandowski scored another quick brace (56', 61') - first with a clinical header from a corner, then netting a great pass from Yamal. In the 72nd minute, Raphinha completed his brace, by intercepting the defensive error.
With this Barcelona advances to the quarterfinals, where they could possibly meet their league rivals, Atletico Madrid, if they restrict Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg.
