Manchester United to offer Harry Maguire a contract extension

Maguire's current contract at Old Trafford is set to come to an end this summer. However, as per the Daily Mail, he is set to pen an extension. Unlike Casemiro, who has confirmed that he will leave the club as a free agent this summer, Maguire is expected to continue.

The English defender has been open for a possible pre-agreement for a summer transfer since January. AC Milan and Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah have shown interest in his services. However, Maguire would love to stay at United.

The 32-year-old has become a pivotal player under thee interim manager Michael Carrick, starting all five matches he has been in charge of. They have won four and drawn one, securing two clean sheets. Hence, the Red Devils are aiming to reward Maguire with an extension.

Manchester United acquired for a reported fee of £80 million from Leicester City in 2019. He has since played 261 games for them and also scored 17 goals and nine assists. He has helped them win one FA Cup and one EFL Cup.

Harry Maguire appreciates Jonny Evans

Jonny Evans is included in Michael Carrick's staff at Manchester United. He shared the pitch 36 times with Harry Maguire before retiring at the end of last season. He is now working with young defenders at the club like Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro.

In an interview with the club's website, Harry Maguire appreciated Evans and said:

“Jonny is great to have around. The way that he handles himself and the responsibility that he took on his shoulders when he was a player, he can take that on to coaching as well.

“Just little things like in the session the other day, I was finished and was walking in and could see that Jonny was doing extra work with Leny and Ayden. Things like that, as a young boy coming through and playing on the biggest stage, sometimes you have to learn and adapt on the pitch and on the stage, but you also can’t forget that you need to improve and you need to work," he added.

Maguire also praised Jonathan Woodgate, who is also part of Carrick's staff at Manchester United. He said that he has been highly impressed with Woodgate and that he is giving him tips as a former centre-back.
