Norway advance to World Cup Last 16 with late Haaland winner; Ivory Coast eliminated

Norway have booked their place in the round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the round of 32. Antonio Nusa opened the scoring for Norway with a stunning curler in the 39th minute. The result stayed the same until the second half. 

Ivory Coast responded strongly, with Amad Diallo levelling the match in the 74th minute with what many called a goal-of-the-tournament contender. Erling Haaland then delivered in the 86th minute, slotting home the winner to send the Norwegian fans into raptures and secure progression.

This result marks Norway’s first appearance at the World Cup since 1998. They now face a challenging last-16 clash against Brazil. The match, played in Dallas, showcased the competitiveness of the knockout stages, with both teams displaying high intensity until the final whistle.
