Despite featuring in five World Cup editions, Ronaldo’s eight goals have all come in the group stage.

The debate of picking one player as the "Greatest of All Time" between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is a never ending debate among the football fans. Since it is well known that both the players will participate in the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, eventually it is going to be the last tournament for two greats in their national team jerseys.

Roberto Martinez picks Cristiano Ronaldo as "GOAT"

Portugal's boss Roberto Martinez has picked his GOAT among the two icons, and it is obviously Cristiano Ronaldo. Since Martinez took charge of the Portugal national team, he always praised Ronaldo's value in the squad.

In a latest interview, Martinez called Ronaldo as the greatest player of all time even if he never wins the FIFA World Cup in his career.

"He will be the greatest player ever, whether he wins the World Cup or not. I have never worked with a player who, every morning, has this focus on using the day to improve, told Martinez to Portugal Football summit Podcast.

"If we could have Cristiano forever, it would be the easiest way to help younger players when they arrive in the national team. His desire is to use every day to become better," he added.

Cristiano Ronaldo's poor record at FIFA World Cup

Ronaldo has appeared in five editions of FIFA World Cup in his iconic career, but never got to smash a goal in the knockout stage of the glorious tournament.

Across all five editions of the tournament, Ronaldo played 22 games and managed to amass just eight goals and all of them came in the group stage.
