The football community is in shock and mourning following the heartbreaking news of UD Las Palmas defender Zeben Ramos’ death at just 23 years old. The young player tragically passed away after spending weeks in a coma caused by a serious car accident on June 9 in Arucas, Gran Canaria.
Las Palmas confirm loss of promising talent
In an official statement, UD Las Palmas expressed their deep sorrow:
UD Las Palmas deeply regret having to announce the passing of Zebensui Ramos Gonzalez, known in football as Zeben.
The Las Palmas C team player, aged 23, was unable to overcome the severe injuries he sustained in a tragic collision on June 9 at Arucas on Gran Canaria.
A versatile left-sided defender with great prospects, Zeben stood out due to his commitment, character and ability to adapt to various defensive roles.
His non-stop hard work and his attitude on and off the pitch earned him the chance to repeatedly train with [reserve team] Las Palmas Atletico.
We wish to convey our deepest condolences to his family, friends and teammates, and to everyone who accompanied him during his football career. The entire Yellows family unites in grief at Zeben's loss. He will forever remain in our hearts.
To honor his memory, Las Palmas observed a minute’s silence before their training session on Friday.

Zeben’s journey with Las Palmas
Ramos joined Las Palmas in January 2024 and had been working with the club’s reserve squad. His dedication and talent quickly made him a standout among his peers, often training with Las Palmas Atletico, the club’s reserve team.
Las Palmas, recently relegated to Spain’s second division, had returned to La Liga in 2023 after five years but failed to maintain their top-flight status, falling nine points short of safety.
