The FIFA Best Awards are back with their another edition in 2025, where the governing body of football will be awarding in different categories. The players, coaches, goalkeepers, and more are selected based on the best performance throughout the calendar year, and the best clinch the title.
FIFA has been hosting its own awards ceremony for over thirty years, and it was previously known as the FIFA World Player of the Year. It was then renamed in 2016 to the Best FIFA Football Awards. The award function is highlighted by the Best Player Award, but there are many other categories.
The footballing event will have several categories, like Best Player, Best Goalkeeper, Best Coach, and the Puskas and the Marta Award will be among the categories. The award is for the best or most beautiful goal scored in that year. Talking about the Puskas Award, it is named after Ferenc Puskas and has been presented annually for the last 15 years. It has had 16 different winners since its inception in 2009.
From its first edition to 2023, the award was open to both males and females. The award was divided into the men's and women's categories in 2024, making Puskas exclusive to only men's players. The award is voted on by the fans and the FIFA legends panel. For the women, there is the Marta Award, handed out to the best scorer with stars alike in contention. The award honors Marta, the Brazilian international forward and captain. She was herself nominated in the first edition of the award and won the inaugural title.
The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, December 16, in Doha, Qatar, and can be watched live on the official site of FIFA. Alejandro Garnacho won last year’s award. The Chelsea player bagged the Puskas for his overhead kick for Manchester United. The goal was scored against Everton at Goodison Park.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino will be at the Best Football Awards, which has been in action since 2017. The footballing event will be followed by a gala dinner, which will be attended by 800 guests. The invitees also include the FIFA Council members, former players, and other representatives. As we look ahead to the much-awaited award function in the world of football, a look at the nominees of the Puskas and Marta awards nominees fo their best goals scored in 2025.
