Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti may have sparked speculation about his future after a revealing statement in the aftermath of his side’s thrilling 4-3 defeat to Barcelona. The Clasico loss, which all but ended Los Blancos’ hopes in the La Liga title race, saw Ancelotti address the media with a blend of realism and subtle introspection.
Ancelotti Breaks Down the Defeat
Speaking after the high-octane encounter, the Italian tactician didn't hold back in his assessment. While pleased with his side's attacking intent, he was candid about their defensive failings.
“In a match of this level, you have to defend well and attack well. We attacked well, but in those 30 minutes, we made defensive errors that cost us the game,” said Ancelotti as qouted by managing madrid
Blames Defensive Injuries
Ancelotti was quick to highlight that his defensive setup was not at full strength, citing the absence of key players as a contributing factor.
“They did well. Every chance we had up front was clear because we attacked well behind them. We scored three and were offside twice. We had clear ideas in attack, but I don’t think we defended well. We mustn’t forget that we were missing five defenders, we mustn’t forget that.”
Updates on Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo
On the player front, Ancelotti provided updates on Vinicius Jr., who was subbed off during the match.
“I made the change. I had a sprained ankle,” he explained, indicating the injury wasn’t too severe.
As for Rodrygo, he wasn’t featured heavily despite being available.
“He had recovered, but he was not feeling well. No problems with him. He wasn’t at 100 percent. If you put him in for five or seven minutes if he’s not at 100 percent, you’re only getting injured.”
Four Losses to Barcelona — What Went Wrong?
This was Madrid’s fourth defeat to Barcelona this season, and Ancelotti was asked to reflect on what’s gone wrong in these matchups.
“We had to defend better. Today’s performance is quite evident. We defended poorly, not because we had a low block; we defended poorly, period, because defending high is easier.”
