In a surprising turn of events, seasoned forward Rani Rampal was omitted from the 34-member shortlist for the senior women's hockey probables for the national coaching camp. The decision comes as the team prepares for the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games, slated for September-October. The exclusion is especially notable given Rampal's recent public query towards head coach Janneke Schopman, wherein she sought clarity on her apparent sidelining despite commendable recent performances.

In a statement released to HI, Schopman mentioned, "We have showcased in our recent competitions that we are growing as a team and are constantly learning." "The upcoming camp is an important one for us as we are spearheading our preparations for the Hangzhou Asian Games, which could be our road to securing a spot for the Paris Olympics 2024." "We will work on the areas where we still need to improve in the camp and will focus on ensuring all the players are comfortable in playing the kind of hockey that we want to play." "It is important that all of us are on the same page before the all-important competition ahead for us."

The preparation camp is set to commence shortly and will culminate on September 18. The list of probables features goalkeepers like Savita, Rajani Etimarpu, Bichu Devi Kharibam, and Bansari Solanki. The defenders' roster includes players like Deep Grace Ekka, Gurjit Kaur, Nikki Pradhan, among others. The midfield and forward lines have talents like Nisha, Salima Tete, Lalremsiami, and Vandana Katariya, to name a few.

India's Hangzhou Games challenge is set to begin on September 27, with the team pitted against opponents such as Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, and Singapore in Pool A. On a high note, the Indian women's team recently showcased their prowess by clinching a victory at the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation - International Tournament in Barcelona, defeating hosts Spain with a 3-0 scoreline.
