Max Verstappen’s 2024 championship victory, which matched Sebastian Vettel’s record at Red Bull Racing, was sealed at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Despite finishing fifth in the race, Verstappen held an unassailable 63-point lead over Lando Norris, whose performance left him in P6. While Mercedes dominated the weekend, clinching a historic 1-2 finish with George Russell taking the victory, Verstappen’s consistent form and unyielding resolve allowed him to clinch yet another title

After clinching his fourth consecutive Formula 1 World Championship, Max Verstappen shared his thoughts with the Dutch media, revealing how criticism from figures like McLaren’s Zak Brown only fueled his determination.

“Things like that only motivate me,” Verstappen said, addressing the accusations that he could only win with the best car. “If people are critical and think I can only win in the best car, I prove them wrong.”

When asked whether he expected more recognition for his success now that some have attributed his victories to Red Bull’s dominant car, Verstappen responded with a light laugh: “If I don’t get it now, I don’t know what else [I need to do].”

Could have won with any other car?

Verstappen, who had a challenging season with several controversies surrounding Red Bull’s fluctuating performance, was asked if he could have won the title driving a McLaren or Ferrari instead of the Red Bull. His response? “Yes, even earlier,” he said confidently.

On the Ferrari, Verstappen added: “Pretty much the same, I think.” However, when asked about Mercedes, he acknowledged the challenge: “No, that would have been a bit more difficult.”

Horner on Verstappen

Despite Red Bull’s performance issues throughout the year, including off-track distractions like the Christian Horner investigation and persistent rumors about a potential move to Mercedes, Verstappen remained focused. His team principal, Christian Horner, praised Verstappen’s ability to stay grounded.

“I think in any adversity, adversity would always galvanize a team, and that’s certainly what has happened with this team, And I think there’s huge pride in this championship, that often there’s noise or speculation, and all of that’s been ignored, most of all by Max. He hasn’t been distracted; he’s just got in and got on with the job," Horner said.
